IT IS going to be an important year for young Catholics in Cebu in 2019 as the Archdiocese of Cebu formally opens the Year of the Youth during the Christ the King celebration held at the Fuente Osmeña Circle in Cebu City on Sunday, November 25.

During the opening of the Year of the Youth, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma announced to more than 4,000 participants, including Catholic youth organizations from different parishes, that Cebu will play host to next year’s National Youth Day (NYD).

It will be the first time that NYD will be held in Cebu since it first started in 1986.

This year’s Year of the Youth will celebrate with a theme “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted and Empowered.”

In his homily, Palma reminded the youth that they are an important part of the society and should be loved by all.

He also reminded the youth that God does not forsake the youth even in times of great turmoil.

“In times when we feel we are not loved enough, karong hapona, we are reminded that we are loved. We should never doubt when we are noted for great devotion,” Palma said.

Palma also reminded the youth to use their gifts for the service of others. (JKV)
