2 village officials wounded in gun attack

TWO village officials were wounded in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Sunday, November 25.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, disclosed the incident happened around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, November 24, at Purok Paglaum in the village of Mabuhay, Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Galvez identified the victims as Teofilo Niez, Jr., 54, the village chief of Dontolan, Molave; and, Estrella Hinoqin, 39, the village records keeper.

Galvez said investigation showed the victims were aboard a motorcycle travelling to the village of Dontolan when repeatedly shot by one of two men aboard on another motorcycle that chased them.

She said the suspects sped towards the village of Parasan, Molave, when the victims’ motorcycle crashed on the pavement.

She added the victims were taken to the Salug Valley Medical Center in Molave while investigation continues in a bid to unmask the identities of the suspects and for their eventual arrest. (SunStar Philippines)
