THE Philippine National Police (PNP) and ABS-CBN have ironed out issues with regard to the “Ang Probinsyano” following the signing of a memorandum of understanding Monday, November 26.

PNP officials, including PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, and the producers of the “Ang Probinsyano” met Monday in Camp Crame in Quezon City where they formalized the salient points of their dialogue last week.

“Until the succeeding season of 'Ang Probinsyano,' we hope to put all the animosity and clashing opinions behind us, and introduce to our countrymen the true-to-life Filipino police officers imbued with the finest tradition of valor, service and sacrifice for God, country and people,” said Albayalde.

Earlier, Albayalde and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año scored the show due to the "bad and unfair" portrayal of police forces, including that of the chief PNP, which according to them affects the image of the national police agency.

The PNP withdrew its support and banned the show from using its personnel and equipment.

But Albayalde reiterated that they just wanted a fair portrayal of the policemen and not to totally change the flow of the show.

“Basically, we did not ask for any assurance kasi ayaw naman nating totally baguhin ‘yung kanilang script kung talagang ganun. With the understanding that we had, basically, magbabago yun (there will be some minor revisions) and we also pledged our full support to them, if they will really portray the true story about the PNP. Actually, the national headquarters are open for them if they need to use the facilities if only, para mapalabas kung ano talaga ‘yung totoong nangyayari,” he said.

"Ang request sa atin kung pwede daw makagamit ‘yung talagang pulis especially sa mga police operations para talagang realistic ‘yung kilos and we said yes, provided na hindi naman makaapekto sa pagseserbisyo nila," he added.

The PNP chief said they will provide police officers to serve as advisers and consultants to ensure that the portrayal of the police force in the show is realistic.

The "Ang Probinsyano," which was aired since in 2015, is about a decent police officer named Cardo Dalisay, portrayed by actor Coco Martin, who was engaged in a series of events that later on led him to joining a rebel group named “Vendetta.”

Members of Vendetta are going against the illegal activities of government leaders, including the President Lucas Cabrera played by Edu Manzano and PNP Chief Alejandro Tarante played by actor Soliman Cruz. (SunStar Philippines)
