Another official to be axed soon

APPARENTLY not done with his firing spree yet, President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday, November 26, that he is set to fire "another undersecretary" over corruption allegatons.

Duterte made the announcement during his attendance to the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project kick-off ceremony in Davao City.

Duterte said he would announce the name of the high-ranking official facing dismissal from office when he returns to the MalacaƱan Palace.

"Again, there is corruption in government because the people are not really assertive about it," the President said in a speech delivered in Davao City.

"Corruption is not acceptable to me. I need not repeat it everyday. And when I go to Manila, I'm going to fire another undersecretary," he added.

The last to get the boot under Duterte's anti-corruption crackdown in government was Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) secretary-general Falconi Millar because of supposed irregularities in the agency.

Duterte announced Millar's removal from HUDCC during the inauguration of the Cavite Gateway Terminal in Tanza, Cavite on November 22.

Prior to Millar's dismissal, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea also confirmed on November 19 that Duterte terminated the appointments of Social Welfare undersecretaries Maria Lourdes Turalde-Jarabe, Mae Fe Ancheta-Templa, and Hope Hervilla.

Medialdea, however, did not cite Duterte's reasons for firing the three Social Welfare undersecretaries. (SunStar Philippines)
