DAVAO City's Fide master (FM) Austin Jacob Literatus settled for the runner-up honors in open blitz event of the 2018 Tagum Fiesta National Open Chess Championships that closed Sunday at the RDR Gym, Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Barangay Mankilam, Tagum City.
Literatus edged three other six-pointers Samson Lim, Don Tyrone Delos Santos and Vince Angelo Medina via superior tiebreaks to grab the second spot while champion national master (NM) David Elorta finished with 6.5 points.
A total of 81 players from all over the country were entered in the event.
The fifth-seeded Literatus was unbeaten, winning five matches over Venancio Loyola, Lim, Jhonnel Balquin, Sherwin Tiu and second-seed international master (IM) Ronald Dableo. The Dabawenyo also drew with Alfredo Rapanot and NM David Elorta.
Earlier, Dabawenyo IM Oliver Dimakiling-led Team Breaux emerged champion in the tatluhan category.
