EVERY year, the national drug prevention week is celebrated on the third week of November pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 124, dated November 26, 2001. The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU)-Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID) organized a forum discussion on the National Situationer on War Against Illegal Drugs held at AdDU Pakighinabi room last November 21, 2018.

The forum was facilitated by Atty. Romeo “Meong” T. Cabarde Jr. and Lunar Fayloga. Invited guest speakers were Police Superintendent Michael Sabalberino Seguido, the proponent of “Project Mananita,” the Kapalong MPS version of PNP Oplan Tokhang, and Pdea Agent IA5 Marian Grace Quadrazal.

A motorcade was also done two days after the forum wherein organizations like Davao Volkswagen Club, New Day Recovery Center, St. Peters Counseling Home and Rehabilitation Center, and other government organizations were present to signify support against illegal drugs.

Representatives from the other programs of CAID such as Drug Hotline and Referral Helpline (DHRF), Healing and Recovery for Drug Surrenders (HERDS), Human Rights Training and Rights Based Policing and Mindanao Drug Trade Research were also present in the activity.

CAID Director Roawie Quimba expressed the missions and the good intentions of CAID toward a drug-free country. CAID young models Rachel Amanda Goh and Kikz Onandia, who are future nurses, were also in the event to show their support to the advocacy against illegal drugs.

The motorcade event lasted for an hour and it was followed by a pet show.

PAWsitivity Project Philippines member Floyd Bascones shared that pets can prevent substance abuse and help those in drug recovery because they provide warmth and security during the person’s loneliest and worst points.

St. Peters Counseling Home Chief Nurse Charina Linsag was grateful for AdDU for constantly inviting them in similar events.

For the entire week, the AdDU CAID honored the anti- drug fight. It will continue to take its initiative to promote good health free of drugs, increase awareness on the fatal consequences of illegal drugs, and eliminate the risks of drug abuse to individuals and the society.
