Body formed to look into urban plan

A SPECIAL review committee will be formed in order to address the implementation of the Metro Davao Urban Development Plan, a government official said.

Mindanao Development Authority (Minda) policy, planning, and project development office director Reyzaldy Tan said in a media forum that the National Economic Development Authority Region (Neda)-Davao created a Metro Davao Development Coordinating Committee (MDDCC) last year which also laid out future plans in the development of Davao City.

“Neda 11 (Davao) has already facilitated a Metro Davao Coordinating Committee. This is a special committee under the RDC11 where part of the resolutions passed are looking at the possibility of a consolidation of this committee with the local executives in Davao region concerning the Metro Davao Urban Development Plan,” Tan said, adding that the presence of the local government officials in the committee will help in locating future sites to be established in the urban development plan.

MDDCC shall work on building trust for joint efforts and cooperative ventures focused on the needs of Metropolitan Davao that include, among others: land use planning to support economic development; tourism promotion and management; Davao Gulf coastal resource management; and joint service delivery for urban facilities and services.

Meanwhile, Tan said Minda’s role is making sure there is a government structure which can regulate the urban development plan.

Tan added the local officials can help a lot in sharing their ideas on development with the vision of creating a Metro Davao because different cities in Davao region have a huge role to play in securing different economic characteristic and progress.

“Like agricultural districts in Digos, Davao Oriental, and even some parts of Samal, these are vital in order to secure food supply throughout Davao region,” Tan added.
