Motoomull: Is Year 2019 really something new?

YEAR 2018 will certainly go and Year 2019 will eventually come. In a literal way, Year 2019 will become new with the change of its last digit from number 8 to 9.

Since we are using the Gregorian Calendar, every year will go and come with the same numbers of months in a year, the same names and sequences, the same numbers of a month except February with additional day every four years, the same total number of days in a year with one more day during leap year.

Moreover, we will have the same dates of birthday but birthday dates will move one day ahead every year and two days during leap year. As a matter of fact, Year 2019 will bring nothing extraordinary and different from anything known before. Ever and always, it brings in the same and old familiar things.

In welcoming Year 2019, it is also similar of the past year with the same customs and traditions hardly altered. Indeed, it is the old familiar things we have to live through our life unless we do something to change and break them up.

Hopefully, there is something new in Year 2019. Again for the nth time, we can make a new resolution. And on our Year 2019th birthday, another year will be definitely added to our age. If we are still young, we welcome it but if we are already senior citizens, we will probably detest it. But how do we grow old . . . older but not wiser and that we are still the same old familiar self with no change for the better?

Change is the most significant constant in our life. Its constancy will force us to move in a particular direction or to get into a particular situation. All of us will experience the process of becoming old and showing the effects of being old. Fortunately, we are endowed by our Almighty God with all the characteristics we can develop, nurture, harness and sustain a life of our own choice.

Thus, once again, Year 2019 will give us another chance, time and opportunity to have a new life. Resolution plus dogged courage, willpower and determination are the real keys for change. As always, may we seek God’s blessings in everything we do so that our hope be inspired and enlivened with our prayers.

I will go on vacation next month, December. I’ll miss you; hope you’ll miss me too. I will be back with my lifestyle write-up on January 2019, every second Wednesday and fourth Wednesday of the month thereon.

Merry Christmas 2018 and a Happy Year 2019! (Email: dr.nirmla_motoomull@yahoo.com)
