Panguil Bay Bridge to break ground today

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will grace the groundbreaking ceremony of the P4.8-billion Panguil Bay bridge on Wednesday, November 28, which is expected to shorten the travel time between the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental to only seven minutes.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Lanao Del Norte Governor Imelda Dimaporo, First District Representative Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, 2nd District Representative Abdullah Dimaporo, Mayor Leoncio Bagul, Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines are among the expected guests.

The 3.772-kilometer Panguil Bay Bridge will connect Tangub City, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte in Northern Mindanao.

Land travel time from Ozamiz/Tangub, Misamis Oriental to Tubod Lanao Del Norte will be cut to seven minutes from the current 2.0 to 2.5 hours. The project is expected to be completed by 2021.

Panguil Bay borders the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Sur, and Lanao del Norte.

In April 2016, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signed a loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of Korea-Economic Development Cooperation Fund (KEXIM-EDCF) for a P4.859-billion loan to finance the implementation of the Panguil Bay Bridge Project.

The project is envisioned to improve the transport of goods and services in connecting municipalities and create an attractive trans-shipment hub and venue for industrial ventures in the part of Southern Philippines.

Travel time from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to the cities of Tangub, Ozamis, Oroquieta, Dipolog, and Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte is also expected to improve significantly.
