Drug agency nabs couple in drug bust

ANTI-NARCOTICS agents arrested a couple in a drug buy-bust in Opol, Misamis Oriental, Monday.

Basir B. Sultan, alias Dodong Basir, and his wife Rohania, alias Raga Basir, were arrested in Vamenta Subdivision, Barangay Barra, at around 2:30 p.m. by undercover agents, said the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Northern Mindanao in an emailed statement to this paper.

The couple were nabbed “after conspiring with each other in selling one piece heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substances believed to be shabu with an approximate weight of 0.07 grams to a PDEA undercover agent,” the anti-drug agency said.

Recovered from the couple’s possession were six pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu weighing 1.33 grams, marijuana dried leaves, one green lighter with improvised needle, and six pieces of aluminum foil strips.

Basir and Rohania, both 38, are listed as “high value targets” by the PDEA-Northern Mindanao.

Basir, according to the anti-drug agency, was jobless, while his wife a sari-sari store vendor.

The suspects are currently detained at the PDEA office, while the confiscated illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia will be submitted to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory.

PDEA said the couple will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act. (DVA)
