Editorial: When the sun sets, a star shines

Sunstar Pampanga’s 23rd anniversary today is marked by the setting of the sun for one of the industry’s finest writers, opinion writer Ram Mercado.

For more than 18 years, Tatang Ram as he is fondly called, wrote about various issues, personalities and human interest pieces in his column First Person with a style all his own, beyond imitation of anyone else in the journalism circle.

We were saddened, like our colleagues in the Pampanga media, when he returned to his Creator a few days ago. But beyond the tears, we are very happy for having been privileged with a true blue writer like Tatang Ram, who gave light to the way of both veteran and budding writers, shining bright like a star in the dark after the sun has set.

As we pay tribute to the man, SunStar Pampanga similarly extends its heartfelt gratitude to our readers who have made as a staple in their daily lives and for allowing -- and believing in us -- to deliver the latest, timely and relevant information from the beat to our pages and onto your eyes and minds.

Our thanks to our advertisers for permitting us to help drive their businesses and to our friends and all stakeholders who have been with SunStar Pampanga for the past 23 years.

Our vision is that there will no longer be a SunStar Pampanga in the next 23 years, considering the advent of the digital and social media highways. But our firm mission is not to let that happen for the sake of the community which relies on us for the truth and the right. Because we believe that when the sun sets, a star shines for all of us.
