THE TECHNICAL Education Skills Development Authority-Cordillera Administrative Region (Tesda-CAR) is now conducting a sensitivity training for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Baguio City.
Some 30 trainers of Tesda-CAR coming from the different provinces in the region having specific trade specialties will undergo the four-day training which started November 26 to 29.
“Tesda trainers will undergo the sensitivity training which is focused on our particular clients specifically those persons with disabilities. Our trainers need to know the laws and rights of our PWDs aside from being oriented on how to assist them in an easy and practical appropriate was specifically through the use of sign language,” Daisy Baungallion of Tesda said.
Representatives coming from the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development will lead the orientation of Tesda trainers who will be briefed on the rights of PWDs.
“The basic sign language course will be taught to the trainers for them to inculcate sign language in their training system particularly for our clients who are deaf and mute,” Bungallion said.
The Baguio City School of Arts and Trade have produced PWD graduates who took cookery and baking courses.
“Part of the module also deals with mental awareness because we also have clients with mental problems like slow learners and fast learners. Our PWD clients remain part of our regular students and does not have any special classes for them since what we intend is for them to be part of the regular system,” she added.
