TO HELP in the implementation of the curfew ordinance in La Trinidad, municipal police is set to create the “Kabataan Watch” composed of youth council members.
Chief Inspector Benson Macliing, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS) chief, explained most of the violators of the municipal ordinance have been committed by the youth, and with the creation of the Kabataan Watch, the police chief believes the reduction of youth violators will ensue.
“We want to acquire the services of the youth through the creation of the Kabataan Watch that we can decrease and even eliminate the number of repetitive apprehensions of the youth who violates the ordinance. Viewing it from our end, the common violators of the ordinance are the youth who are not violators of crimes against persons or property,” Macliing said.
The chief of police has discussed the proposed creation of the Kabataan Watch with the youth council president of the municipality. The group will come from the 16 barangays of La Trinidad.
The Kabataan Watch Group will assist in the implementation of the curfew ordinance since LTMPS still observes the presence of the youth plying the streets of La Trinidad.
In 2017, the implementation of the curfew ordinance was strengthened to prevent any crime involving minors brought to the police station particularly to the women and children's desk.
On February 5, Barangay Henerasyon party-list Representative Bernadette Herrera Dy filed House Bill no. 7110, which seeks to impose a nationwide curfew to promote child safety and protection of welfare of persons under 18 years old.
Under the House Bill, persons under 18 years old will not be allowed on the streets from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless they are with their parents or guardian.
