Guerrero to build first community college, new cemetery

FLORIDABLANCA -- This town’s former Mayor Eddie Guerrero said that he is all committed to realizing the establishment of a community college for this town and a new public cemetery, two projects that he would push for once given a fresh mandate in the coming 2019 polls.

Guerrero, who is running for municipal mayor, said that these two projects will greatly serve the needs of the town. He added that a community college will enable more students from low income families to avail of affordable education.

He added that while there are colleges and universities offering free education and scholarships, the distance of the town from learning institutions is a great impediment on the part of the parents of the students who would have to shoulder travel expenses.

“A community college will give our students more chance to earn a degree,” Guerrero added.

The former mayor is also looking at the plan of decongesting the old public cemetery here and putting up a new one in a land covered by the Sugar Regulatory Administration. He added that the move would declog the main town of traffic and would properly put the cemetery in a zoned area away from dense commercial activity.

The former mayor added that he is also looking at the tourism potential of the town but admits that this would be a difficult task while the current administration is embroiled in the issue of a planned landfill facility that is being contested in court by Floridablanca residents.
