Turk who assaulted traffic enforcer in Makati arrested

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested for overstaying in the Philippines the Turkish national who went viral on social media for assaulting a traffic enforcer in Makati City last November 22.

Yuksel Ibrahim, 24, struck the arm of Public Safety Department Enforcer Michael Orcino while the latter was directing traffic along Gil Puyat Avenue.

When the enforcer instructed Ibrahim to pull over for his violation, the latter refused and attempted to drive off. Ibrahim assaulted Orcino when the latter blocked his car using a motorcycle.

The incident was recorded using the body camera of Orcino.

Ibrahim was released by the Makati police on Thursday, December 29, after he posted bail on charges of direct assault, threat, resisting arrest and malicious mischief, but after his release, he was arrested by the BI agents.

The BI said it conducted an investigation on the status of Ibrahim’s visa when it received information about the incident.

Later, the BI found out that the Turk is overstaying in the Philippies.

The BI also said that Ibrahim was engaged in some gainful operations without a proper visa.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente reiterated his warning against illegal and undesirable aliens.

“Respect our laws, and respect our law enforcers. We will not tolerate this behavior. His actions show that he is a risk to public safety, and must be deported,” he said.

Ibrahim is currently detained at the BI Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig, pending his deportation proceedings. (SunStar Philippines)
