STRENGTHENING branding and marketing in local businesses through creative digital design will be one of the core discussion points in the Design South Creative Conference on Saturday, December 1, at Malayan Colleges Mindanao, a Mapua School in Davao City.

Graphic designer and illustrator Paolo Ramirez underscored the importance of using digital art in promoting a business. He emphasized that the business sector must adapt the current trend of using technology in marketing.

Ramirez said in a media forum that there are still misconceptions of artists pursuing as freelance digital illustrators as “non-financially sufficient” job, and the creative conference is seen to address such wrong notion.

Ramirez added the Design South Creative Conference is set to provide a venue for local artists to be recognized for their craft, build network with other creative artist in order to create collaborations and partnerships, and be able to improve digital art craft.

“The event is called Design South because we want to focus on Mindanao, because often times Mindanawons are often over-looked although we are just as talented as other artists in different regions of the country,” Ramirez said.

The event will highlight Mindanao creativity through a series of activities throughout the day: an art exhibit from select DGDC members; merchandise selling featuring the products and crafts of local artists; interactive display booths from partner sponsors; and fun games among others.

DesignSouth is spearheaded by the Davao Graphic Designers Community, Inc. which is a non-profit organization that promotes local creatives and visions to put Davao Region on the Creative Design map. Since 2011, DGDC has grown to a 4,000-people strong community of creatives.
