PNP: Security measures in place for Christmas season

AN OFFICIAL of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) on Thursday, November 29, said it is beefing up security measures to deter criminality and maintain peace and order around the city for the yuletide season.

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said the security plan is already in place as they are set to maximize Cocpo's police force for Christmas.

"Wala natong 300 plus nga police nga gideploy sa Camp Alagar as augmentation last November 1 and 2 kay naay lain gideployan sa ila nga mas importante so atong i-maximize ang atong pwersa diri,'Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said the types of criminal activity that usually spike during the holiday season are robbery, theft, burglary, snatching, pick pocketing, and the proliferation of counterfeited money.

Hortillosa said all station commanders and special unit chiefs are already directed to monitor their respective jurisdictions and maximize deployment to ensure safety and security of the public especially in places of convergence.

He also said they are intensifying its "Oplan Recorida" where policemen make rounds in their respective areas of responsibility to remind people against criminals and lawless elements.

"Galibot ang atong mga police sa mga komunidad apil sa mga establishments aron ma-remind sila always batok sa mga criminal activities," Hortillosa said.

"Kay sa pasko raba halos tanan maghikay gyud unya katong walay ikahikay posible makahuna-huna gyud to og daotan," he added.

Hortillosa said policemen have been directed to intensify the conduct of border control and security checkpoints, frequent police visibility, and continuous intelligence monitoring to thwart crimes and violence.

Hortillosa, however, said security is not just the police's duties alone.

He said everyone must be security conscious and should make a personal security plan to avoid being victimized by bad elements.
