Cpadao: Only half of 12,000 who surrendered finish rehab

SOME 6,443 drug surrenderers in Cebu Province completed a drug rehabilitation program.

That is 53.67 percent of the 12,004 users who underwent a Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) in the barangays, according to report of the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (Cpadao).

The graduates are from San Remigio, Argao, Bogo City, Carcar City, Medellin, Carmen, Danao City and Sogod.

Ivy Meca, Cpadao chief, said the graduates completed the module for holistic rehabilitation. The remaining 5,561 drug surrenderers are still in the program.

She said none of the graduates availed themselves of a residential treatment or entered drug rehabilitation facility.

After the start of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term in 2016, Cpadao’s records show there have been 46,085 drug surrenderers in the province, but not all of them joined the CBRP.

Meca said Cpadao still has a lot of work to do in order to achieve a drug-free Cebu Province.

Earlier, the Cpadao also reported that 810 barangays in Cebu Province are affected by illegal drugs this year, or about 75 percent of the province’s 1,066 barangays.

Of the 810 barangays, 14 are seriously affected by the drug problem, 403 are moderately affected and 393 are slightly affected, according to Meca.

She said 11 barangays are not infested with illegal drugs. The regional oversight committee, led by PDEA, also gave drug-cleared statuses to 245 barangays. From AZLG of Superbalita Cebu/KAL
