Brother dismayed over ‘slow’ pace of Rotoras murder case

A SIBLING of the slain state university president Ricardo Rotoras over the weekend said he almost lost his trust to the investigators that handle the case as there has been no progress and development yet since Rotoras was murdered exactly one year ago, December 2.

Rotoras' brother Eldie said his trust to the Special Investigator Task Group (SITG) is almost gone due to the snail-paced probe, which until now the people behind the brutal killing were not yet identified.

"Ako personally gamay na lang akong pagsalig sa atong justice system ug sa atong otoridad nga naghandle sa kaso nga matutokan kini (I, personally, have little trust to our justice system and to the authorities who handle the case),"he said.

"Kung si Dr. Rotoras nga dunay influence ug ilado, wala man gani mahatagi gamay og development ang kaso how much more sa mga ordinary nga mga tawo (Even the case of Dr. Rotoras who is influential and well-known has no development , how much more the ordinary people) ,"he added.

He said the family was not even given the copy of the supposed transmittal of request which asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to enhance the footage of the security camera and access to Rotoras' cellular phones.

Eldie said he was told about three weeks ago by former National Bureau of Investigation (NB)-Northern Mindanao director Hans Barbaso that the request was already endorsed to the FBI through the U.S. embassy.

"Pero wala kami mahatagi sa kopya sa transmittal kay confidential in nature kuno (But we have not given a copy of the transmittal because it’s confidential in nature). Nasabtan nato na pero (We understand but) we have the right kay we are the aggrieved party,"he said.

However, the family is still urging investigators to fast track and double its effort to bring all those involved in the murder to justice.

The family remembered Rotoras' first death anniversary by offering flowers and prayers at his grave Sunday, December 2.

Eldie said the family was supposed to initiate a prayer rally to be joined by friends, faculty, and staff of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) but it was not pushed through because of monetary constraints.

"Ang pag-ampo na lang sa pamilya nga unta dunay divine intervention aron maangkon namo ang hustisya (Our prayer for divine intervention so justice will be served),"he added.
