Maintaining salon-gorgeous hair

THE moment we come out of the parlor after a hair service, we feel like a goddess because of how perfect our mane looks. However, there is no assurance that this would last for too long.

For more than a year, I had to live with corn-like hair. It was very dry and looked like rusty wires. Well, too much bleaching caused it. And probably, the fact that I never knew how to take care of it had worsen its condition.

Last month, a close friend back in high school recommended that I should try the magic of Hair Salon (yes, that is the name of the beauty nook) in Buhangin, just across Orange Grove Hotel, to bring back my hair’s “life.” I had rebond for the portions that no longer had dye and keratin blow for my entire mane. Dondon, the stylist, also fixed my hair color.

The moment all the treatments were done, I was surprised! Finally, my hair is alive. The problem, though, is how to maintain it. I ask for tips from the wonderful stylists and did some research, too. Here are the practical tips I have gathered:

1. Wash hair but not daily. Filipinos are naturally addicted to cleanliness. Therefore, taking a bath twice a day is just normal. However, when it comes to our hair, we have to limit the number of times we wash it. Hair stylists recommend that we do it every other day.

2. Avoid shampoo brands that contain paraben and sulfate. These chemicals could pose health hazards. These could also be bad for your hair. As suggested by one stylist, I have been using baby shampoo since I had my treatment at Hair Salon in November. Luckily, I have maintained its smoothness until this day.

3. Use shampoo according to hair’s condition. Therefore, aside from trying baby shampoo, you can also choose the perfect pair for your hair. For example, we can use the brand with amino acids if we have colored hair and the one with collagen if our hair is frizzy and dry.

4. Apple cider monthly. To keep hair dandruff-free, we can wash it with apple cider mix once a month. All we need to do is mix one part of apple cider vinegar with three parts of warm water and use this solution to wash hair. The strong smell of the vinegar can be removed once we shampoo our hair. Aside from treating dandruff, it can also help keep our hair shiny.

5. Visit a trusted parlor regularly. To revive my damaged hair, my stylist recommended that I get a keratin treatment monthly until it gets back to life. Once it is fully okay, I can have it every two to three months. And yes, no other hair treatments yet. I have to give it some rest for a while.

For Hair Salon owner Isabela Thiemig, their biggest goal is to see every customer satisfied with what they offer. Thus, they make sure that they give out expert advice, even if it means that they could be earning less from a client. When the customer says that she wants a rebond yet it is not advisable at the moment, they really would not do it. By doing so, they earn their customer’s trust.
