City of Naga offers free ride to inmates’ visitors

TRANSPORTATION will not be a problem for families visiting the 421 inmates of the New City of Naga Jail who were transferred to the Cebu City Jail (CCJ) on Friday, Nov. 30.

The City Government of Naga will provide a vehicle for them twice a week so they can visit the inmates at the CCJ in Barangay Kalunasan in Cebu City

City of Naga Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong said transportation will be provided until they finish the slope stabilization activities around the jail facility in Barangay Naalad.

The City is still securing a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the slope stabilization work.

“Once (the) permit is issued, we will start. It will take four to five months,” Chiong said.

Last Friday, 421 inmates of the New City of Naga Jail were transferred to the CCJ’s old female dorm upon the request of Naga’s officials.

The request was made after tension cracks were found in a slope near the jail two months after a landslide hit Barangay Tina-an last Sept. 20.

Personnel of the New City of Naga Jail were also transferred to CCJ to secure the detainees. (JKV)
