Biz chamber urges member-firms to patronize local products as gifts

THE Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) urged its member-companies to patronize local products as giveaways or gifts for their employees this Christmas.

Frank Carbon, chief executive officer of MBCCI, said Sunday, December 2, purchasing locally produced products will help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.

Carbon said aside from additional income, this will also provide opportunities for Negrense enterprises to further promote their products to the local market.

“Some of the companies here like Dynamic Builders Inc. have already responded positively,” he said, adding that if all of MBCCI member-firms support the initiative “it would really be a big boost to the MSME sector of the province.”

MBCCI is composed of at least 150 member-companies and over 20 business associations in Negros Occidental.

The chamber has been promoting the concept of “Government and Business Partnering for Growth and Development: Developing Capacities, Finding Solutions.”

Through which, the group is initiating activities focused on the promotion of local startups as well as micro and small enterprises.

Carbon said, “We have been attacked by multinational and giant businesses from Cebu and Manila” thus, there is a need to help local entrepreneurs so they can grow and compete in the market.

He said that the upcoming Christmas season is an ideal time to extend support to the MSMEs instead of just conducting trainings and seminars.

“We want, this time, to provide a real help in the form of additional income opportunity, and linkage,” Carbon said, adding that “we want to really expose our quality products during special occasions like Christmas so it can reach more companies and potential markets.” (EPN)
