Town government employee dies in knife attack

A GOVERNMENT employee was killed in a knife attack while the two suspects were detained after the incident in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Monday, December 3.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, at Purok Tinago in Poblacion village, Sominot town.

Galvez said the fatality was identified as Rolly Davis, 34, a casual employee of the Sominot Municipal Government and the suspects are Jeriel Gonzaga, 19 and Rogelio Asuro, 29, both motorcycle-for-hire drivers.

She said investigation showed the suspects went to the residence of Davis and challenged the victim to a fistfight.

Gonzaga managed to grab and repeatedly stabbed the victim, who was rushed but failed to reach the Midsalip Infirmary Hospital alive, Galvez added.

The police official said Gonzaga voluntarily surrendered to the responding policemen while Asuro was arrested in his residence at Purok 1, San Miguel village, Sominot.

She said the motive of the incident was personal grudge while appropriate charges are set to be filed against the two suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
