RESIDENTS in the municipality of La Trinidad are warned to take necessary precautions in safe guarding their valuables even inside their homes.
This, after a foreign national was robbed at FA 166-A, Lubok, Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet last Friday, November 30 around 2:10 a.m.
The victim was identified as Julia Imaculada Do Rosario, 22, a Timor-Leste national, 3rd year college student in La Union, and a resident of the area.
According to the victim, she arrived home around 12:15 a.m. of November 30, opened their window then charged her two cellular phones described worth close to P50,000.
The victim fell asleep moments later but was awakened around 2:10 a.m. when her neighbor, Gina Bayedbed, knocked on her window.
After waking up, she noticed her cellular phones placed under her pillow and on the floor were already missing.
Her neighbor noticed a tree branch that was placed on their window believed to be used by the suspect in fishing out the cellular phones.
The incident happened days after the new chief of police in the valley assumed his oath.
Members of the La Trinidad Municipal Council welcomed Chief Inspector Jeoffer Banglayan during his courtesy call on Monday.
Banglayan asked lawmakers support as he do his part as public servant in the municipality of La Trinidad and disclosed his plans to continue the projects and programs in the municipality and including a strong support in the anti-illegal drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Last month, members of the Liga ng mga Barangay and Municipal Council of La Trinidad have asked the possible service-extension then valley police chief, Chief Inspector Benson Macli-ing.
Through a resolution on October 26, 16 barangay captains of the Benguet capital town have also expressed the same request to the Police Regional office Cordillera on November 28.
Following the turn-ceremony last Friday, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda lamented on the matter as he expressed concern as there were no formal communication received by his office regarding the turn over ceremony.
“One week before, there should be a communication that would be relieving and also there was also a resolution of Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council) requesting the extension of services of Benson Macli-ing,” Salda said.
With the sudden turnover, he added they will be collating all letters within the week and request for the return of Macli-ing pending the submission of five names for the position.
“I will be also contacting the upper – (PNP) if possible, order return of Macli-ing- and extend his services,” stated the mayor in an interview with media on Monday. (with a report from Lauren Alimondo)
