DICT, Ideaspace hold ‘meetup’ for startups in Oro

THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in partnership with Ideaspace Philippines, recently organized a focus group discussion to advance the development of startups in Cagayan de Oro City.

The one day activity dubbed as “Startup Ecosystem Mapping and Community Meetup”, was held in one of the hotels in the city where 20 select participants were invited because they either are experienced or have existing programs and activities that supports startups, technology, design and entrepreneur communities.

The meetup or the focus group discussion (FGD) was designed to establish a collaborative atmosphere among the city’s technology startups and aspiring startups. A gathering of local leaders and community builders in the startup community, ICT council, academe, and the local government unit to evaluate and strengthen the local startup ecosystem.

Engr. Eugene Raposala of the Mindanao Cluster 2 of the DICT, said that the organization of the FGD was to appraise the participants of the current digital startup development program-workshops, trainings, and other activities- designed to promote and support startups and tech/startup communities in the country.

Rapasola said that a startup or tech enterprise typically has three major categories of talent needed in order to launch a startup: Tech-programmer, web developer, mobile developer, coder, software and ICT professional; Design- branding; and the non tech part that handles business, marketing, sales, finance, subject matter expert.
