Caraga police intensifies operations vs illegal logging

THE Police Regional Office Caraga Region seized a total of P164,713 worth of illegally cut lumbers in Agusan del Sur over the weekend as it intensifies its campaign against illegal logging this December.

Police operatives of San Luis Municipal Police Station in Agusan del Sur and agents of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) confiscated a total of 20.75 cubic meter of mixed dipterocarp logs worth P103,650 in Km. 19, Barangay Don Alejandro, San Luis, Agusan del Sur. While in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, 1,609.20 board feet lauan lumbers with market value of P40,225 were also confiscated.

Meanwhile, P20,838 worth of mixed dipterocarp logs were also confiscated by 3 separate operations conducted by Veruela, Sibagat, and Rosario police stations with DENR agents.

Senior Superintendent Gilberto Cruz, PRO-Caraga regional director urged the public to report any information and whereabouts of the suspects of the six separate operations who remain at large.

“This success is attributed to the combined efforts of the PNP, DENR and other partner agencies in protecting and conserving the forests in Caraga region,” Cruz said.

“Aside from war against illegal drugs and other criminalities, Caraga police are also focused on combating all forms of illegal logging to ensure the protection and preservation of the environment and natural resources,” he added.
