CEBUANA ultramarathoner Rhoda Caballero-Oporto set a new female national record for 24-hour endurance run in the 2018 Soochow International Ultramarathon IAU 24 hours Asia & Oceania Championships in Taiwan.
Oporto covered a total distance of 160.9 kilometers on her debut in the grueling 24-hour run at Taiwan’s oval that wrapped on Sunday, Dec. 2.
Oporto finished at 18th place among the top endurance athletes in Asia in the race that saw Japan’s Yuri Matsumoto topping the women’s side with a total distance of 219.2K followed by Australia’s Tia Jones with 218.7K.
Aiko Kaematsu of Japan finished third with 212.7K, while New Zealand’s Fiona Hayvice and Dawn Tuffery had 202.3K and 202K distance to round up the Top 5.
Despite not making it to the Top 10, Oporto achieved a new feat as she erased the standing national record of Mylene Ugali Elliot, who ran 134K in the IAU World Championship 24-hour Endurance Run in Ireland.
