NEGRENSE climate activist Brother Jaazeal Jakosalem, who is from San Carlos City, will be featured in the global broadcast of "24 Hours of Reality."

"24 Hours of Reality" is a day of eye-opening stories and compelling conversations about the climate crisis and how to solve it. The show is hosted by The Climate Reality Project and its founder, former United States Vice President Al Gore.

It will be broadcasted live to millions of viewers around the world on December 3 and 4 via https://www.24HoursofReality.org.

The Philippine segment dubbed "A Storm of Activism" will be on the hour six of the broadcast showing in the country on December 4 at 2 a.m.

This segment underscores the success story of the local struggle related to the proposed coal-fired power plant in Cebu City that was collectively opposed by local officials, professionals, artists, grassroots communities, church-people, and organizations like Greenpeace, Pusyon Kinaiyahan, PMCJ-Sanlakas, and Dakila, among others.

Jakosalem, a Green Ring Awardee of The Climate Reality Project and a founding member of Pusyon Kinaiyahan, narrates the beginnings of the local environmental movement in Cebu.

He will talk on the movement's global impact and the importance of amplifying the collective message from across platforms - grassroots education, grounded activism, and shared the struggle.

Jakosalem is now based in Madrid, Spain working in the Arcores International network, but before that he was assigned in Bacolod City for nine years.

He actively opposed the ethanol plant and one of the advisers of anti-coal movement in Negros.

Being active in the environmental movement and struggles in the Philippines, Jakosalem has been helping and assisting church-people and communities on ecological issues and practical solutions related to climate change, development, and industrial aggression.

Moreover, during the annual global broadcast, Gore will also be joined by an all-star line-up of artists, other thought leaders, and scientists, among others.

This year's theme is “Protect Our Planet, Protect Ourselves.”

The broadcast also features grassroots actions, local initiatives of activists, organizations, and ordinary citizens taking steps in solving the climate crisis.

“We’ll travel across the Earth for 24 hours to learn more about how fossil fuels and climate change are creating unique health risks that threaten the wellness of families and communities all over the world,” the Climate Reality Project said.

The organization said that places vulnerable to typhoons and having already suffered devastating health impacts of the climate crisis, Filipinos are actively combatting the fossil fuel industry.

The broadcast will also include a live presentation by Gore, interviews with health care officials, and a look at the battle to shut down a proposed new coal-fired power plant, it added. (EPN)
