PHLPost recognizes commemorative stamps to mark Birth Centenary of National Artists

TO COMMEMORATE Filipino talent, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) together with National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) acknowledged the commemorative stamps to mark 2017 and 2018 Birth Centenary of seven Filipino National Artists on November 29, 2018 at the NCCA Auditorium.

Six National Artists were born on 1917 marking their 100 years on 2017, namely; Cesar Legaspi (National Artist for Visual Arts), Daisy Avellana (National Artist for Film and Theater), Jose Maceda (National Artist for Music), Leonor Orosa-Goquingco (National Artist for Dance), Wilfredo Ma. Guerrero (National Artist for Theater), and Nick Joaquin (National Artist for Literature), while Lucrecia Kasilag (National Artist for Music) marked her 100th year this 2018.

The recognition program opened with a welcome remark from NCCA Chairman National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and introductory speech from NCCA Deputy executive director Marichu Tellano. PHLPost Postmaster-General Joel Otarra also shared a brief word about the commemorative stamps. Families and relatives of the national artist received their copy of the commemorative stamps.

PHLPost gave tribute to the country’s national artists who made significant contributions to the development and propagation of Philippine arts and culture.

The stamps featured the photographic illustrations of each national artist and the year of their birth centenary.

PHLPost has printed P50,000 copies of the P12 denomination which was designed by the stamp artist Victorino Serevo.

The stamps are available at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide.
