Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performs in Davao

PHILIPPINE Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) performed their first ever concert in Davao City last November 24 at the RMC GYM.

Dabawenyos were treated with a breath-taking performance by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of PPO's Music Director and Principal Conductor Mr. Yoshikazu Fukumura.

Yoshikazu Fukumura, a leading conductor in Japan, has enjoyed dividing his time between conducting orchestras across Asia and throughout Latin America over the last 40 years.

Davao take pride in witnessing world-class performances and monumental live music experience by the country’s leading symphony orchestra and a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region and the first Philippine orchestra to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Their repertoire includes classical music of Johann Strauss Jr. Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake, and well-known pop songs including Beyoncé Medley and Bruno Mars Hits.

The concert also featured the vocal duo of Nightingales by Bianca Camille Lopez and Rhina Palma-Cruz. A combination of a unique style of singing - bel canto or beautiful voice, and enthralled audience performing a wide-range repertoire of opera arias, Broadway classics, folk songs, and even popular standard.

The duo is former soloists of the country’s premier choir and internationally acclaimed ensemble, The Philippine Madrigal Singers.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra was joined by the country’s hitmaker and “The King of OPM Theme Songs”, Mr. Eric Santos, under the baton by Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s Maestro Herminigildo Ranera. Santos sang Basil Valdez hits medley and the most applauded version of “Ikaw.”

The concert is part the PPO’s outreach program to promote music appreciation throughout the country, that aims to provide a world-class performance of diverse, yet accessible classical musical entertainment that enriches different audiences, including Filipino communities.

The concert is in cooperation with the City government of Davao City, led by Mayor Sara Duterte, and the Davao Tourism Office.
