American priest nabbed over rape charges

POLICE nabbed on Wednesday, December 5, American priest Kenneth Bernard Pius Hendricks in Naval, Biliran over alleged rape charges.

Police Superintendent Ma Bella Rentuaya, regional police spokesperson, said Hendricks was arrested around 11 a.m. at the Diocese of Naval by the joint elements of Naval Municipal Police Station led by PO3 Venus Abrigo, under the supervision of Superintendent Estanislao Corpin, the chief of police, and personnel from United States Department of Homeland Security.

Hendricks, 78, was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Stephanie Bowman, US magistrate judge of the US District Court for the District of Ohio on November 11, 2018.

He is facing charges of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places for violation of 18 U.S.C. & 2423 under United States Law with Case No. 1:18MJ-719, said a report from Biliran Island.com.

The priest was brought to Tacloban DZR Airport around 1 p.m. after his medical examination at the Biliran Provincial Hospital.

Hendricks has been in the Biliran province for the past 50 years, serving in various religious and socio-civic functions.

Reports said the Franciscan priest is accused of raping and molesting more than 50 people, mostly altar boys as young as seven years old. (SunStar Philippines)
