‘The Nutcracker,’ Balletcenter bags gold

TOMORROW, all roads lead to “The Nutcracker,” a well-loved Christmas ballet to be held Onstage, Ayala Cinema One at Ayala Center Cebu. Curtain rises 7 p.m. A second performance will be on Saturday, Dec. 8, same time and venue.

After performing to full houses last Nov. 3 and 4 at Centerstage SM Seaside City Cebu, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Balletcenter Cebu and Ayala Center Cebu, the show will once more bring to life the lovable characters of this ballet.

For 26 years, artistic directors Gregory Aaron and Nicolas Pacaña, have entertained generations of balletomanes. Anticipate Act One at the home of Baron and Baroness Von Stahlbaum, where a waltz will be performed. Act Two will transport you to the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy where the Nutcracker Prince introduces Clara to the Fairy, and are entertained by the royal court from lands far and wide: Spanish, Russian, Farandol from France, Waltz of the Flowers from Holland etc.

Here’s more from Balletcenter: Fresh from Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore are Balletcenter’s artistic directors Aaron and Pacaña, who attended the Asia Pacific Arts Festival competition. Go for the gold and they did! The Center bagged one Silver and three Golds. Dancer Eunice Kristianne Molleno (first runner-up) received Gold in the dance category! Then, two more Golds were awarded to Helga Beuken and Alexandra Bacalla, and Silver for Arabella Arquillano.

Gold is getting to be a proud habit for the Center, and already plans are afoot to attend next year’s festival in Vietnam, Jan. 18 to 30.
