FASHION Institute of the Philippines Cebu (FIP) showcased green in its regal form through its designs collectively named “Emerald Holiday.”

The designs were crafted by some of FIP Cebu’s students and alumni: Don Riel Luna, Glenn Paul Cataag, Orlie Mar, Marty Nuevo, Divine Cordova, Punky O., Melodie Arriba, Janice Tan, Sheila dela Cruz, MJ Moral, Sam Alga, James Yapching and Thea Mirasol. These dresses were first shown in Negros Oriental’s Buglasan Festival last Oct. 24.

“Green seems to be a dominant color in the trends list for 2019. Shades like mint and leaf are predicted to be big in the coming seasons,” shared Punky Oliverio, FIP Cebu’s principal, about the choice of color.

“It is very timely for the holiday season. Green is very strong and attractive. It makes the holiday season look so alive with the wide range of shades of green and the choices of fabrics that are rich. The silhouettes are also very critical in making the dresses appeal special.”

As green reigns supreme, especially with the string of holiday decorations around the city, it comes as no surprise that one dons this color for this season—any season, really. The color green is one calming shade and symbolizes so many things from hope and growth to harmony and nature. Fashion-wise, the color gives off an elegant feel.

Green may generally be a difficult color to pull off but with the right fabrics and cuts, it can be very exciting and grand.
