UV bags PCCL crown

LEANING on their much-taller line-up, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers of Cebu City used that advantage to trounce Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias of Bacolod City, 72-68, to crown themselves as this year’s Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Visyasa-Mindanao champions in Thursday’s lone match-up at the Arcadia Lifestyle and Fitness basketball court.

Import Bassieru Sackor along with the pair of Gileant Delator and Michael Maestre did most of the damage, drilling 18, 15 and 11 points, respectively, to prevent a possible Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias comeback.

Green Lancer main man Rey Suerte could only finish with eight points but was sidelined with foul trouble that left the pair of Delator and Maestre scoring in the fourth canto.

They led by as much as four points in the half, 37-33, before igniting a 6-0 run in the final canto as they took a 68-59 with 45 ticks left and never looked back.

Other members for the UV Green Lancers include Jim Paul Amistoso, Clyde Avancena, Melvin Butohali, Jancork Cabahug, Jafet Claridad, Froiland Maglasang, Ted Saga, Josue Sagumpan, Ubert Villaceran, Lassina Coulibaly and Jossier Hassan with Gary Cortes calling the shots.

Carl Magbanua led Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias with 17 points while Jeff Manday added 15 on a losing effort.

Delator along with Sackor and Suerte were voted to the Mythical Five selection along with Magbanua and Manday.

The victory for the UV Lancers earned them a trip to the Philippine Regional Championship next to Naga City Academy set on Friday, Dec. 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the same venue. (PR)
