THE Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH) and Pomeroy sealed their entry into the semifinal round of the Aboitiz Boys 18 tournament after their final Group A matches at the Cebu City Sports Center Wednesday night, Dec. 5.

DBBH sealed their fourth straight win with a clinical 3-0 rout of sister team Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) 2. DBBH took the lead early and was simply too much for the young DBTC squad as it finished the elimination round with a perfect 4-0 record, good for 12 points and the no. 1 spot.

On the other hand, Pomeroy played to a testy 1-1 draw with the University of Southern Philippines (USPF) Foundation to nab the second semifinal seat on a goal difference.

Both Pomeroy and USPF finished with seven points on two wins, one draw and a loss but Pomeroy has a healthy +21 on goal difference while USPF only has four. Pomeroy padded its tally thanks to a 21-0 rout of Talisay United, which forfeited its game against USPF. A forfeit only counts as a 3-0 win.

In Group A, Paref-Springdale will go for a 3-0 win against DBTC 1 to avoid a semifinal clash with title favorites DBBH. Springdale has six points and a +2 goal difference.

A 3-0 win will have it leapfrog no. 1 team Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, which closed out its group stage with nine points and a +4 goal difference.

In the men’s open division, new team Donsacradel and the University of San Jose-Recoletos are poised to advanced to the knockout stage in Group A with six points each, while Makoto and the University of Cebu (UC) are the survivors of Group B.

Makoto took the top spot after winning all their games, while UC is second at six points.

In Group C, defending champion Leylam and the University of the Visayas took the top two spots with six points each, with Leylam leading in goal difference. In Group D, Southwestern University is on top with seven points on a 2-1 record.

USC-Queen City United is second on four points but with a game at hand against Don Bosco Magone. (ML)
