DAVAO City produces graduates whose skills and intellect can be competed against graduates coming from Metro Manila and Cebu City.

This comes with great pride to the city once this graduate excels in other countries for work or comes out as a topnotcher in board and bar exams.

As Davao City continues to progress, we not only see high-rise residential and commercial developments mushrooming everywhere. We also see and hear of high-quality and world-class academic institutions that are planned to put up a campus here in Davao City.

This only means that the economic progress and development of a certain city should take into account the value of education that its student will have. The progress will not only be economically but also in terms of the value of the manpower it produces.

As of 2018, five institutions opened, announced construction, and topped off here in Davao City.

1. Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM)

Mapua school, located along a 2.3-hectare land property in McArthur Highway, Matina, Davao City, just opened its doors to both senior high school and college students on July 7, 2018.

The school was also reported to have invested P2 billion to build the campus. Their current undergraduate programs include Communication Arts, Multimedia Arts, Entrepreneurship, Entertainment and Multimedia Computing, Computer Science, Information Systems, Architecture, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering.

2. Enderun Colleges

A state-of-the-art institution known in Metro Manila to specialize in Culinary and Hotel and Restaurant Management studies, Enderun Colleges is reported to be in Davao City by 2021 specifically in Azuela Cove, Lanang.

“For more than a decade, Enderun Colleges has established itself as a premier management college. It is high time that we expand our scope by building a school in Davao, one of the primary cities in the Philippines, to provide a wide variety of academic opportunities for the Filipino youth,” said Enderun Colleges President Edgardo Rodriguez in a statement.

3. University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P)

Just last month, LTS Malls Incorporated President Sharlene Faye Lim bared that included in their 8-hectare NCCC mixed-use community in Panacan, Davao City is the UA&P Business Schools although she has yet to disclose when the target start of construction will be.

Lim said they would want to bring quality business school education closer to the Dabawenyos. “There are many things happening here in Davao and there are a lot of people who need that education,” she said earlier.

4. Lyceum of the Philippines-Davao (LPU)

Targeted to be operational by June 2019, LPU had their topping off ceremony on October 19, 2018 at Km.11, Diversion Road, Sasa, Davao City. LPU-Davao will be offering programs on allied medical professions, business and accountancy, engineering, computer studies, and international tourism and hospitality management, as well as senior high school program. It will be part of a 17-hectare mixed-use land development and has the capacity to house 5,900 students.

5. De La Salle University (DLSU)

The first DLSU in Davao City will be part of the central business district of Cebu Landmasters, Inc. (CLI) specifically on a 20-hectare land property development project that CLI has in Matina.

The first phase of the development was reported to commence by the later part of 2019 and is targeted to finish by 2021.
