MisOr residents urged to collect plastic wastes

THE environmental office of the provincial government of Misamis Oriental is urging residents to actively collect plastic wastes for conversion into into plastic chairs through the Villar Sipag Foundation.

Engineer Presco Valmoria, head of the capitol's Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), has asked the public to collect plastic bottles, cellophane and other plastic wastes so it can still be recycled.

He said the Villar Sipag Foundation has an office in Cagayan de Oro City.

Valmoria said plastic wastes are among the prevalent problems in the country that need to be addressed as it destroys the environment.

In a press briefing at the Capitol, Valmoria said the provincial government, through the leadership of Governor Yevgeny Emano, and the Villar Sipag Foundation have forged an agreement to protect the environment through this worthwhile endeavor.

He said the ENRO will haul the collected plastic materials from each town and cities to the foundation's plant.

He said the collected plastic wastes will be used as raw materials in making plastic chairs, which in turn will be distributed to elementary schools in the province.

Valmoria said 45 kilograms of plastic are needed to produce a single chair.

The municipality of Laguindingan topped in terms of collection of plastic wastes.

In return, the said town has already received some 50 plastic chairs from the said foundation.
