Coney Reyes back to acting via ‘Rubi’

VETERAN actress Coney Reyes will once again grace the primetime viewing in the ABS-CBN's upcoming soap “Rubi.”

Coney, who gained fame in her long running TV drama anthology "Coney Reyes on Camera," which aired from 1984 to 1998, will play the role of Eliza Ferrer, the protective mother of Diether Ocampo's character in the serye.

Coney said it was refreshing to be back on TV after her successful stint in Ysabella (2007) with the Teleserye Queen Judy Ann Santos.

“Yung combination ng mga artista sobrang ganda, another challenging project for me,” she added.

The actress is very happy working again especially that she's now sharing the screen with the industry's best.

“Nakakatuwa, enjoy ako. It's not as hectic as my role as Victoria Amarillo in Ysabella, and I like it this way. It’s a powerhouse cast actually. Ang sarap silang makatrabaho,” Coney said.

She added that even before she believes that Angelica will do great in the entertainment industry and it is her time now to shine. “I worked with Angelica since she's a little girl and I really always believe she has potential. I always tell her mom talaga that she can really act.”

The two were able to shoot a scene when Angelica was only seven or eight and the latter needed to act as an epileptic kid. Coney said Angelica delivered it well and that was the time she knew she will go far in showbiz.

“Nag mature na sya as an actress, nag bloom and blossom na sya not just on screen but personally also. She's a revelation here,” Coney said.

The veteran actress also has good words to Diether Ocampo and Jake Cuenca, who plays the role of the dashing prince charming of Rubi in the localized Mexican novela.

“Si Jake once ko pa lang syang nakakasama pero sobrang dedicated nya, sobrang mahal nya yung trabaho nya and its always nice seeing actors like him serious about their work,” she said.

Coney added: "Si Diether ganun din, sobrang galing ang seryoso parin sa work. They know when to have fun and when to stop and work, so natutuwa ako sa kanila.”

She said “Rubi” will give a different twist to the primetime viewing of the Filipinos and her role is one to watch for.

“Ibang klase to (This is very different)… On Angelica and Diether's romance, I will do everything in my power to keep them away.”

“Rubi” will air this February 15 only in ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
