An evening of good taste

A UNIQUE night of indulgence, in the form of wine tasting with sommelier-turned-wine maker Franck Massard, was had recently at The Pig & Palm! All handpicked by Massard himself, guests were introduced to the variety of the wine’s very distinct and unique characteristics to suit one’s taste.

Originally from France, Massard arrived in Spain, fascinated by the landscape of Spain’s poshest wine region namely Priorat, a small wine area with a setting, which he described as “having a contrast of both enigmatic and fabulous.”

“To know better wine is to make it by myself,” he said.

Wines with character featured that evening were a total of nine varieties: Mas Sardana (a cava that has a bright gold color with green tingles and threads of fine bubbles. It has a combined taste of citrus-y flavors and hazelnut finishing with an almost creamy texture, no sugar added), Herbis (aromas reminiscent of scented herbs such as basil and lemon-grass), Baixas (a light and citrus-y wine from Do Rias), Audacia (ripe apricot jam characterizes this rich wine from a region called Do Valdeorras), Mas Amor (having a light and elegant complex with a refreshing finish), El Brindis (a soft red wine easy to match with many different dishes), El Mago (an organic wine that has an awesome fruit power but a greenness on the palate with a light finish, also named after Massard’s children, daughter Maya and son Hugo), Humilitat (soft, smooth and red ripe fruit) and Huellas (extremely complex with nuances of mature fruit and spice with fine tannins and a lively finish).

For pairings, The Pig & Palm created a very tasty selection of bite-sized nibbles to complement the wines!
