DEMAND for wafer biscuits and fruit snacks is increasing in China, as more consumers become increasingly health-conscious.
The Euromonitor Digest, released by the Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau, said wafers recorded strong current value sales growth in 2018 despite bearish conditions within sweet biscuits.
“This was partly due to the success of manufacturers in catering to the growing preference for savory flavors, which many consumers perceive as being healthier than sweeter options,” it said.
The report noted current value growth was also bolstered by rising demand for recently launched imported products made with high quality ingredients.
Positioned as naturally healthy products, the report also said fruit snacks are generally perceived as a healthier alternative to other types of snacks that are high in artificial additives. Philexport News and Features
