Firecracker ban violators warned

THE authorities warned those who will violate the firecracker ban in Davao City will face charges.

Police Superintendent Cydric Tamayo, Regional Chief Civil Security Unit said last September, they apprehended a violator of the firecracker ban. Although they have the documents, bringing the items are still not allowed.

They are not discounting the possibility that those who are supposedly passing the city might drop the prohibited items somewhere in the city and sell it.

Under the City Ordinance No. 060-02 of 2002, it prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices and other similar devices and explosives within the territorial jurisdiction of the city and it also ban transporting firecrackers in Davao City.

Those who are coming from North and are heading to South, they must find alternate route such as in Butuan City, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon then Kidapawan.

Tamayo said in relation to Executive Order 28 dated June 20, 2017 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on the regulation and control of pyro techniques and fireworks, it requires towns and cities with no firecracker ban to identify areas where they can have a community fireworks display and firecracker zone to reduce number of injuries.

For 15 years, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has not recorded any firecracker-related casualties due to the strict implementation of the ordinance. There was also no incident of stray bullet due to indiscriminate firing that was reported.
