Transpo stipend for ‘elderly’ execs

OFFICIALS of senior citizens associations in Cebu Province will soon receive transportation allowances from the Capitol.

This, after the Provincial Board approved an ordinance providing monthly transportation allowances to officials of the Cebu Provincial Federations of Cities and Municipalities Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines Inc. (CPFCMSCAPI) and quarterly allowances to their presidents.

Authored by PB Members Jose Mari Salvador and Christopher Baricuatro, the ordinance was approved by the PB last Monday, Dec. 3.

Based on the newly approved ordinance, officials and members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of CPFCMSCAPI will receive P2,000 every month.

Officials of the CPFCMSCAPI, who are entitled to the allowance, are the organization president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, auditor, three public relation officers (PROs) and seven members of the BOT.

Another P2,000 per quarter will be provided to 36 presidents of senior citizens federations in the cities and towns under the Capitol.

Going a long way

With the P2,000 allowance, CPFCMSCAPI officials can attend their monthly meetings or attend activities organized by the Provincial Government, Salvador said.

It goes the same for the federation presidents, who will receive a quarterly allowance of P2,000.

“Their duties and responsibilities as heads of their respective local federations are equally crucial as those of the officers and members of the Board of Trustees such that they should also be granted a transportation allowance of at least P2,000,” the ordinance states.

The ordinance aims to institutionalize providing incentives and privileges to senior citizens so they can fully serve their duties to their constituents, particularly their respective federations.

Once the ordinance takes effect, the funds for the transportation allowance will be sourced out from the yearly funds of the Provincial Senior Citizens Council.

The giving of transportation allowance is also stated in Republic Act 9994, or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, which mandates providing benefits and privileges to senior citizens.

“Makatabang ni (This will help), considering we really need to take care of our senior citizens,” Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said during the session. (From SCG of Superbalita Cebu)
