THE University of San Carlos-Queen City United (USC-QCU) used a superb second half to erase a goal deficit and beat the University of the Visayas (UV), 3-2, in the Men’s Open quarterfinals of the 2018 Aboitiz Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, Dec. 9.

The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate champion USC-QCU found itself down 1-2 after the first half with UV scoring two quick goals courtesy of Marlou Bongator and Eugene Vicente in the 21st and 23rd minute of the game.

USC-QCU’s Mark Unabia scored the much needed equalizer at the 71st minute to make it 2-all before Keen Agot scored the game-clinching goal for USC-QCU.

It was USC-QCU’s Steven Patalinghug who drew first blood in just three minutes of play before UV responded with two goals.

USC-QCU moved on to the semis and will face Don Sacredale, which pulled off a 2-1 win over the University of Cebu (UC)-KNF in the separate quarters match. Mark Veloso Pomeroy and Karlo Villamor were the scorers for Don Sacredale while Eduard Acabo hit the lone goal for UC-KNF.

Former Men’s Open champion Leylam FC, on the other hand, booked their ticket to the semis after holding off Southwestern University (SWU), 2-1. Leylam FC scored all their goals in the first half from Famous Ene Azibataram at the 20th minute and Ruffy Llorente in the added time.

SWU hit their lone goal in the first three minutes of the second half.

Meanwhile, Makoto Rising Sun had a clinical, 7-0, rout over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R). Arvin Gaspe and Imran Hussein had two goals each while Yves Russell Caballero, Ren Okuda and Gee Paglinawan added one apiece.

Makoto Rising Sun will face Leylam FC in the next round. The semis starts Wednesday night. RSC
