VETERAN boxing coach Juanito Ablaca is in dire need of financial assistance after being admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Mendero Medical Center in Consolacion, Cebu.
Juanito was first admitted to the hospital in October due to pneumonia. He was brought to the ICU last Dec. 3 when he suffered a mild stroke.
“Last Dec. 3, at noon, he was unconscious and had a mild stroke after he had some spots on his tummy which the doctor said was herpes,” said Amabel, Juanitos wife.
After five days in the ICU, Juanito’s condition has somewhat stabilized.
“He’s doing better, he’s able to respond already,” said Amabel.
However, the hospital bills of Juanito have piled up and he needs financial assistance to pay for the bills that he owes the hospital.
“We have a very huge bill of over P100,000 because he just recently was admitted on Oct. 22 to 27 due to pneumonia. I have no more resources left and we are in need of help,” said Amabel. “He has no more Philhealth because it has all been used up for his dialysis, which is 90 sessions. He’ll resume in January.”
One of Juanito’s former boxers, Edito Villamor, urged people in the boxing community to help out with Juanito’s financial woes through his Facebook account.
According to Villamor, some people in the boxing community have doled out financial assistance to Juanito.
But Juanito is still in need of more help because of his medical bills that keep going up.
Juanito is one of the well-known boxing coaches in Cebu. He was in the corner of world-class fighters like Villamor, Randy Suico, Andy Tabanas, Joma Gamboa and Marlon Tapales, to name a few.
Before being a coach, Juanito was a decent boxer with a record of 16-2-2 with three knockouts.
