Bacolod cop shoots watchman after resisting arrest

A WATCHMAN in Barangay 35, Bacolod City was injured after he was shot by a policeman when he resisted arrest on Saturday, December 8.

Police identified the suspect as Jade Villapa.

Investigation showed that Police Officer 3 Elmer Antonio, a member of the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), was on his way home when he allegedly caught the suspect carrying an improvised shotgun in the said village at 4:15 a.m.

Antonio immediately identified himself as a police officer and directed the suspect to stop and drop his firearm.

But Villapa ignored him and instead pointed his firearm to the policeman, prompting the latter to fire at the village official.

The suspect sustained a gunshot wound on his butt. He was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Police recovered from the scene an improvised shotgun and a live ammunition.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting BCPO director, said the policeman is restricted within the headquarters.

His firearm was submitted to the Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.

Ebreo said the Regional Internal Affairs Service will conduct motu propio investigation to find out if he has criminal or administrative liability.
