LIKE a house on fire, Toto Segumpan waxed hot midway in the fourth quarter, firing five of his six triples in the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers’ mastery over Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. rivals University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 1st Minglanilla Mayor’s Cup Inter-collegiate Christmas League Sunday night at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.
Tied at 60-all with eight minutes left in the final frame, Segumpan teamed up with flashy point guard Geliant Delator in dropping a 11-2 rally that broke the last deadlock, 83-71.
Spicing up the rally were Segumpan’s two 3s while Michael Maestre and Villaceran joined the fray in the shaded lane.
At that point, coach Garry Cortes’ Lancers were beyond reach and the Jaguars virtually raised the white flag with less than two minutes remaining.
Leodie Garcia’s Jaguars, the reigning Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur champion, leaned on RJ Dinolan who checked in with 19 markers while Michael Gastador finished with 12 points.
Earlier, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters booked their second win by edging the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USP-F) Panthers, 83-79.
