Barug gets party accreditation

THE local opposition group in Cebu City led by former mayor Michael Rama is now a registered political party.

In a November 23 resolution, the First Division of the Commission on Elections granted the application of Partido Barug as a registered and accredited political party.

Rama serves as the party’s president.

Under the petition, the party will be officially named as Partido Barug.

The group may no longer need a national party if its members decide to run in the next elections.

In an interview, Rama said they have been waiting for the accreditation and they are happy that it was finally granted.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella shares the same sentiment.

Labella also assured that there is no conflict with Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan and the Partido Barug since the former is their national party and the latter is the regional party. (RVC)
