THREE government employees, including a pregnant woman, were wounded after their car fell on a burning sugarcane field in Barangay To-oy, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental Monday morning, December 10.

Superintendent Glenn Provido, newly-assigned officer-in-charge of Himamaylan City Police Station, said the three victims were riding a sports utility vehicle from the city hall to Kabankalan City at 10:30 a.m. when they suddenly experienced zero visibility on the road due to the smoke from the burning sugarcane plantation at the roadside.

The driver had difficulty driving because he cannot see the road clearly.

He also thought he might hit other vehicles so he swerved the car but it fell on the field.

The fire immediately spread to the vehicle, but they were able to get out quickly.

The two female passengers sustained severe burns while the driver sustained minor burns.

About 80 to 90 percent of the body of the female passengers were burned, Provido said.

All three victims were rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City.

Provido said the lessee of the sugarcane field already signified to provide assistance to the victims. (GYM)
