Man burns partner, 3-year-old daughter

A MAN allegedly burned his partner and three-year-old daughter in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental last Sunday, December 9.

Police withheld the name of the 23-year-old mother, and her daughter.

Superintendent Noel Polines, city police chief, said the victims were sleeping in their house when the suspect, Cedie Gulmatico, 22, from Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, arrived at 3:30 a.m.

Police said that Gulmatico poured a gasoline on the victims and lighted them with a lighter.

Both victims sustained second-degree burns and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but were later transferred to another hospital in Bacolod City due to their severe injuries.

Polines said 28 percent of the mother’s body were burned, including her face, hands, and legs while 15 percent of her daughter’s body were burned, including her back, feet, and hands.

Police recovered from the scene an empty plastic bottle of gasoline.

The suspect surrendered to the police, through the assistance of his partner’s sister, who witnessed the incident.

Polines said the suspect and his partner just transferred to the house of the latter’s parents on December 8. The couple had some quarrels prior to the incident since the suspect believed that his partner is allegedly doing sexual favors in exchange of money.

They had previous misunderstandings over the same issue, he added.

Polines said frustrated homicide charges in relation to Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act will be filed on Tuesday, December 11, against Gulmatico.

Gulmatico is currently detained in Silay City Police Station.
