UAP Cabalen-Pampanga kicks off National Architecture Week 2018

THE United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Cabalen-Pampanga Chapter on Monday, December 10, kicked off its National Architecture Week 2018 celebration through a series of exhibits at Vista Mall Pampanga.

The five-day event, dubbed “Pananaw: Visions of Future Filipino Architecture” is set to run until Friday, December 15. It showcases the life and works of renowned Kapampangan architect Fernando Ocampo, as well as proposed projects of the Cabalen architects and University of the Assumption architecture students.

UAP Cabalen-Pampanga Chapter president Architect Hermel Gulapa, shared that as a newly-chartered chapter, UAP Cabalen is honored to take part in the nationwide week-long festivity, which aims to pay tribute to the contributions of architects in nation building.

“For this year, which is actually our first time celebrating the National Architecture Week as a new chapter, we remember the legacy of our very own Fernandino architectural icon, Architect Fernando H. Ocampo, who was considered as the father of modern architecture in the Philippines,” he said.

“This gathering also serves as our way to not only promote the rich history of Philippine architecture but also an opportunity to promote awareness and appreciation of the architecture profession,” he added.

UAP Cabalen-Pampanga Chapter Secretary and Chairperson of the National Architecture Week 2018 celebration Architect Joseph Edward Dela Cruz then relayed slated activities during the event are anchored with the UAP’s branding “Sa Arkitekto Sigurado”.

“Part of the event are the free consultations with the Cabalen architects, wherein we give advice on designs and planning, as we of course, highlight the importance and worth of architects,” he noted.

“Marami kasi ang hindi pa rin aware sa (Many are still not aware of the) difference between architects and civil engineers. Architects are actually the prime professionals in construction, due to our expertise, training and education. We take the lead role in the project from conceptualization to implementation, to assure that the project is finished in the shortest time possible, at the lowest cost, and in an acceptable quality and high standard performance,” he continued.

UAP District A2B director Architect Raymond Co, for his part, lauded the chapter for its significant initiative in uplifting the profession, promoting the country’s distinct architecture, and inspiring young breed of driven architects.

“Their endeavors are very commendable. We are really happy that as a new member of our district, the UAP Cabalen-Pampanga Chapter is really active in supporting the UAP’s advocacies and programs. We hope that they will continue to do so, as they grow and strengthen their presence in the community,” he said.

The “Pananaw: Visions of Future Filipino Architecture” exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (mall hours).
